I just wanted to take a minute to "thank you" for your very thorough instructions on how to make an audio for your website.

So many others leave out important details that they probably take for granted that everyone knows, when they don't.

Great job!

Tom, I'm not really sure here of the best approach for you, since I've never done what you're trying to do. But my rough guesses are:

1 - You might be able to have everyone use Skype. Should work on all platforms
2 - Microphone isn't critical--just something that their operating system recognizes. Beyond that, better mic gives you better sound quality. Headset mics are probably the best for what you want to do.
3 - I don't know how you'd record this, since I'm not familiar with the mac. But I'd guess that you have some mechanism for "recording what I hear". Either that or a record feature directly in skype.

You might just google or bing something like "record skype conversations mac".

This is a very strange situation i have here and i don't know if you can help. I want to do a podcast about gaming. The idea is to capture the kinds of conversations that my 3, more or less, friends and i have on xbox live about video games. I saw that you mentioned Skype. I have a mac and my friends have various PC laptops. I figured that it would be easiest on people's bandwidth if we did a phonecall-esque conversation instead of a video conversation which, with 4 people... Which would eat people's internet connection. My problem right now is how to record these online phonecalls and what I should tell everyone to use. I know ichat works well for such things but i'm not so sure it would work with other people's programs..
so 1.) What program should I use/ tell everyone to use for the conversation
2.) What mikes should i tell everyone to get
3.) How would i record this
.....and im planning on using garage band FYI for the cast part of podcast : ) Any help would be great

Thanks Sean, this was well-written and very clear, and didn't "skip over" seemingly obvious steps -- only obvious to those who have done such a thing over and over. I've used Audacity to create "read-along" stories for my grandkids, burned to CD, but have yet to try a podcast -- now that may change!
